Brand Owner Save the date see page 10-11 for details Brand-Owner’s perspective on bioplastics and how to unleash its full potential PepsiCo continues to invest in research to help drive the development of bioplastics for use in food packaging. Last year we announced our partnership with Danimer Scientific. The companies’ agreement builds on a long-standing relationship including the development of biobased compostable packaging for PepsiCo’s snack brands and will facilitate the expansion of Danimer Scientifics’ Nodax PHA plant. Danimer Scientifics’ PHA received the first ever OK Marine Biodegradable certification from Vinçotte International, validating that the biopolymer safely biodegrades in salt water environments, leaving no toxins behind. Brad Rodgers R&D Director for Discovery & Sustainability, PepsiCo Global Foods Packaging PepsiCo’s packaging goals are to reduce our greenhouse gas footprint and to design our packaging to be recyclable, compostable or biodegradable. Snack food packaging represents an opportunity to design a film for composting along with other organic waste. Utilizing biobased feedstocks to produce the packaging material can also help us lower our GHG footprint. Use of the bioplastics under development with Danimer will help us meet both goals. www.pepsico.com How about going bio? For almost every conventional plastic, there is a bioplastic alternative. Our PLA masterbatches can help introduce PLA into your portfolio. Make the switch today. www.sukano.com 48 bioplastics MAGAZINE [03/18] Vol. 13
