Sidaplax / Plastic Suppliers “Light in weight, light on your pocket” is the slogan under which Sidaplax, Ghent Belgium, and its parent company Plastic Suppliers Inc., Columbus OH USA, are launching EARTHFIRST ® UL, the newest member of the EarthFirst PLA film-family. The EarthFirst UL is a much thinner version of the existing PLA-film range. It can be used as a sealant layer in laminates, replacing significantly thicker (L) LDPE films. The stiffness of PLA allows extreme downgauging without compromising on machine-ability. On the contrary, the high modulus guarantees smooth unwinding, perfect web flatness and non-curling laminates. The high yield (up to 89 m²/kg) has a positive effect on material cost, and makes EarthFirst UL competitive vs. traditional thicker PE-films. Additional advantages include higher productivity and reduced number of roll changes, less need for warehousing space and lower transportation cost. First applications prove good results as a sealant layer in laminates for stand-up pouches, sachets, paper/cardboard laminates, and other flexible packaging structures. The EarthFirst UL film is available in 9, 12 and 15 µm. EarthFirst UL is part of the PLA-film family of cost effective, bio-based, compostable, high performance, packaging-, sealing-, windowing- and shrink-sleeve films. 10 / B19-7 PTTMCC Biochem PTTMCC Biochem Company Limited is a joint venture company between PTT Public Company Limited and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, the two frontrunners in the energy and petrochemical. It was purposely established to provide environmentally friendly bioplastic BioPBS to inject green attributes and performance into a variety of applications. PTTMCC is the world’s first producer of bio-based PBS and PBSA from natural resources. Their plant is located in Thailand with annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes. BioPBS offers revolutionary properties. It is both biobased and biodegradable to yield a polymer that is able to degrade naturally at room temperature, and has no adverse effects on the environment. Why use BioPBS? • High service temperature: Applications made from BioPBS can be used in hot condition of up to 100°C. • High heat sealability: BioPBS offers the best sealing properties among all bioplastics, and can compete effectively with well-known conventional petro-based plastics solutions (LLDPE, mPE…). • Easy to mix with other Bioplastics: BioPBS is easily compoundable with other types of biopolymers and extends field of applications of bioplastics. • Home compostability and/or ambient biodegradation with no requirement for an industrial composting facility. BIOTEC is one of the global leading companies in producing starch based compounds. It was established in 1992 and is located in Emmerich am Rhein (Germany). With specialized knowledge, BIOTEC develops and produces biodegradable and compostable materials, using potato starch as the main renewable resource. All BIOPLAST products are certified with OK compost by Vinçotte, whereas last year’s launched BIOPLAST 300, 400 and 500 are also fulfilling the OK compost HOME requirements by Vinçotte. The bio-based carbon shares are 30 %, 40 % and 50 % respectively (confirmed by Beta Analytics). Additionally, BIOPLAST products are 100 % biodegradable and compostable according to the EN 13432 standard. The Bioplastic Specialist offers support to brand owners and plastic converters who want to implement new products or packaging solutions made from bioplastics. Customers are in a position to choose from a huge variety of compostable, ready-to-use compounds as well as a comprehensive distribution portfolio of biobased resins, which includes I’m Green Polyethylene (Bio- PE), Eastlon (Bio-PET) and VESTAMID ® Terra (Bio-PA). One of the highlights on display will be the new Bio- Flex ® home compost grades for the production of low gauge and tear resistant films. The product range currently comprises of translucent and opaque grades with varying biobased carbon content of up to 50 %. Other innovations include the recently launched partially bio-based PP compounds Terralene ® PP as well as the fully or partially bio-based TPE compounds Terraprene ® .
