Editorial dear readers After what was hopefully a relaxing holiday with your loved ones, I hope your new year is off to a great start. Here at bioplastics MAGAZINE, we are continuing the series we introduced last year, in which we explore how well the concept of bioplastics is known and understood in the various regions and countries around WWW.MATERBI.COM the globe. In each issue, a different part of the world is highlighted and we are kicking off in 2018 with a look at Asia’s self-styled bioplastics hub: Thailand. During a business trip to Bangkok in December, I not only visited several companies, but also took advantage of the opportunity to conduct another non-representative survey - with a surprisingly positive result. But see for yourself on page 42. Next to my own non-representative snapshot survey, this issue also includes a more comprehensive survey, that was performed by the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences in Germany last year among some 1600 interviewees. See page 26 to see what consumers in Germany really want when it comes to bioplastics. As usual in the first issue each year, our other highlight topics include Bioplastic Foams and Bioplastics in Automotive Applications. In the Basics section, we take a closer look at Soy as a resource for chemicals and materials. adv mela se tore_bioplasticmagazine_05.06.2017_210x297_ese.indd 1 05/05/17 11:39 bioplastics MAGAZINE Vol. 13 ISSN 1862-5258 Highlights Automotive | 10 Foam | 35 Lastly, we’d like to invite you again to our 5 th PLA World Congress in Munich, Germany on May 29 th and 30 th .
