Editorial dear readers After a break of four years the time was ripe for the second PLA World Congress. More than 160 delegates and speakers proved this by gathering in Munich, Germany, for an exchange of information and experiences, and for establishing or renewing contacts. All of the positive feedback from both delegates and speakers has confirmed that this unique event, organized by bioplastics MAGAZINE, was a great success. In this issue of bioplastics MAGAZINE we finalize our reports on NPE and Chinaplas. The other highlights are ‘injection moulding’ including the cover story about cellulose based sunglasses and ‘natural fibres’. More and more different natural fibres are increasingly being investigated as well as biobased materials as a matrix resin. This section is rounded off by a review of the book ‘Natural Fibres’. In the basics section we take a closer look at castor oil as a renewable resource for the production of a variety of bioplastics. A small preview of the bioplastics being used during the London Olympics in this issue will be complemented by a comprehensive report after The Games.
